Paul Harris

Composer Information: Paul Harris

After studies at the Royal Academy of Music and the University of London, Paul is now established internationally as composer and writer, teacher, examiner, adjudicator and performer. He has nearly three hundred publications to his name, among them The Music Teacher's Companion (which recently won the UK's MIA Best New Book award), and the Improve Your Scales! and Improve Your Sight-reading series', through which he has assisted hundreds of thousands of young players worldwide to develop these vital musical skills. He has written two clarinet tutors and a vast amount of educational music as well as Five Concertos, a ballet and a children's opera.

He writes regularly on music education and teaching for the major music magazines, including Music Teacher, BBC Music Magazine and the ABRSM's Libretto, and is in great demand as a workshop and seminar leader in the UK, the USA and the Far East. He has recently made his first CD and performs regularly. Paul has also undertaken research into specialist music education for the highly talented (Julian Bliss, the child prodigy, number among his pupils), an interest that has taken him to many musical institutions around the world. He recently presented a paper on teaching gifted young musicians at a convention at the University of Oklahoma.

Paul's innovative teaching techniques combine thoroughness, imagination and practicality, the defining qualities of his publications.
